Why area alone can mislead

Wallpaper is installed in vertical drops. A roll may have enough total area but still produce too few full-height drops.

Drops required

Divide wall width or perimeter by roll width and round up. Treat separate wall sections carefully around doors and windows.

Pattern repeat

Pattern matching can increase the effective drop length. Round each cut length up to the next usable repeat where required by the match type.

Roll yield

Divide roll length by adjusted drop length and round down to whole drops. Then divide required drops by drops per roll and round up.

Worked example

If an adjusted drop is 2.6 m and a roll is 10.05 m, the roll yields 3 complete drops, not 3.86. Four partial drops cannot be joined to create a normal full drop.

Product checks

BuildCalc supports the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and South Africa. The geometry is universal, but terminology, units, pack sizes and common product dimensions differ. Use the dimensions printed on the product you intend to buy rather than assuming a regional default is exact.

Use the repeat and match information printed on the wallpaper label. Keep batch numbers consistent when ordering.

Use the related calculators
